Four short poems

UNTITLED

I want to touch you
Yet not touch you

The fragile light
Wanders across
Your slumbering hills
And inviting valleys
But I am still
Like morning dew
On sleepy flowers
Absorbing poetry
At its finest

I want to touch you
Yet not touch you
But memorize
Each curve
And pathway
With my poet’s eyes
Until I melt
Into the scenery

NOTE: I realized I never finished this piece because I decided to use “slumbering hills and inviting valleys” in my poem called: Poetry in the Air– please, feel free to read it.

ONE-NIGHT STANDS

Adrift
Like my
Night-time poems

Replayed memories
For no one to view
Silent sorrow
For no one to interpret
Protected secrets
Never meant to see
The daylight

Lyrical one-night stands
Forgotten
In the morning

When my yesterday
Turns into
Someone else’s tomorrow
Where I am nothing
But a haunting sunset

© Noora

ABANDONED

My skin
Still aches
From where
Your fingertips
And lips
Traced pathways
And marked territory
You never claimed.
We both burned
With the same fire
But why am I
The only one
Left smoldering

MEMORIES

Sometimes
They come
And stay
Uninvited
And play
With the strings
Of my heart
Slowly
Soulfully
Refusing
To leave
Like an adagio

© Noora

They are NOT new (!) and not in any specific order. I wasn’t sure about posting them (at all) because “One-night stands” and “Abandoned” are slightly depressing. I often edit my old drafts/notes (written years ago), but I doubt I’d ever work on these pieces again, so, perhaps it’s time to set them free – and most of all get over my “nothing to post” stress. Ha!

Lighthouse

Just reblogging “Lighthouse” with a NEW picture from my second trip to Crete last summer. It was an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to go back – again and again. Hope you all have an inspiring weekend. – Noora

LIGHTHOUSE

I remember the ships
Sailed by me
How my light
Guided their journey
Held them gently
In the evening fog
Offered them faith
In the storm
Yet no one ever stayed

They have sailed
On the sea
Of endless possibilities
But no one has ever
Returned
To tell
Whether they discovered
A safe haven
Or are they still
Drifting
Hoping and waiting
For a miracle
Like my soul today

I often recall
Their names
And tales
And I wonder
If they
Still remember me
The moments we shared
The dreams we dreamt

Bittersweet waves
Crash and fall
Yet I stand still
Heart anchored
Eyes on the horizon
Still waiting
Still hoping
To be someone’s destination

Truth

Three hundred
Sunsets later

My lips
Still feel
The absence
Of yours

My skin
Still quivers
From where your
Fevered fingertips
Wandered
When your scent
Mingled
With mine
And your eyes
Kindled
A perpetual fire

The distance
Still reminds me of
How I kissed
The gentle messenger
Until it unveiled
Your days
With my whispers
Silently lingering
In its rays

The stillness
Still remembers
A million minute journey
Filled with
The melody
Of your soul
When only a day
Without your voice
Felt like a lifetime
Without music

And with these
Hesitant and vulnerable
Yet truthful verses
I am

Yours

More than you
Could ever
Be mine again

Sunsets later

It’s time to post one of yesteryear’s poems while focusing on the new material. I wrote this piece nearly a year ago. It was one of those moments when memories surround you without warning, and you have no other choice than write… in order to “free” yourself.

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend.
Happy writing!!

Dance with Me

Re-blogging one of my very first posts. A poem I was working on last night reminded me of this piece. I’ll be back to post and read soon. Please bear with me 🙂 Hope you’re all having a fantastic week. – Noora

Echoes and Reflections

Dance with Me
(just one slow waltz)

My love,
Take my shaking hand
And dance with me
For good times’ sake

Wrap your arms
Around my quivering body
And glide with me
In a sensual rhythm

Allow your heart sing
One last serenade
With mine

Taste a final poem
From my lips
And let me breathe you in
Once more

Let’s close
This unfinished chapter
With whispers
That only we
Can hear

Let’s celebrate us
Until
It is time to change
Companion

Please
Dance with me
Just one

Under My Skin

Nearly two months on WordPress. I am deeply touched by your love and encouragement. Thank you (145 times).

This is my first poem on WP – for no specific reason. I just wanted to test how “re-blogging” works.  I also slightly edited the original.

I have two really important deadlines approaching, but I’ll try to get something new posted soon. I’m not going anywhere, and I will definitely enjoy your work during my writing and editing breaks.

Hope you all have a wonderful, inspiring week. Happy writing!!

Echoes and Reflections

There is
An unforgettable story
Resting
Under my skin
Waiting
To be told

A poetic masterpiece
We outlined
While our lips
Melted together
In a sensuous surrender

Powerfully devouring
We became one
Strong
In heart, body and soul

Your smile
Found a home
On my lips
The infinity
Of your eyes
Stole my breath

As we traveled
To the heights
We had never
Experienced before

There is
A devastating story
Hidden
Within my heart
Longing
To be released

A fairytale
We dreamt and lived
On a journey
To a destination
Where we never arrived
Together

La Solitudine

A deserted beach
Footprints
Only in my heart

Deep divine sea
Crystal blue sky
Complemented
By the hopeful beams
Of the maternal sun

The careless wind blows
Bittersweet memories
Unlived dreams
From the times
When I was
Your long-awaited
Once in a lifetime

Tomorrow

An unknown destination
On the horizon
Veiled by the tender mist
Of my past

Eyes closed
Breath held
I imagine

The sound
Of your
Returning footsteps

Time
After
Time

In solitude

How I long to pull you close
Feel our hearts beat sacred symphony – in unison
Drift off to sensual laziness
Nothing but warm skin between us

Trace the fullness of your curves
With my curious fingertips
Paint an everlasting love scene
Write a sweet haiku
On your skin

Admire your sleepy gaze
The emerald eyes filled with passion and peaceful calm
Read out lyrical creations – for your ears only
Fall asleep bodies tangled, fingers entwined
Dream together – in safe bliss

Tonight is not one of those nights
But still I love you here
Arms wrapped around you – from miles away
A step closer to the breathtaking dawn
That shines in the colors of your soul

Only an Ocean Away

A walk by the sea
Of my own imagination
Searching for the words
For one of the many
Yet unwritten compositions
My soul sings
Without lyrics

Aiming to still portray
How it felt to love her –
With all of me
How it felt to be adored –
By her heart
How her soul entwined with mine
In the deepest meaning of the word:
Intimacy

The longing north wind
Quietly weeps her name:
soft, melodic and merry

I don’t have to wander
The trails of yesterday
So that I could find her again
She is still in a sacred place
Where I once welcomed her

The slumbering waves sigh
They evoke memories of the moments
When we fell asleep hand in hand
When my touch was more than a touch

I whisper my four lettered confession
To the place
Where the sea joins the sky
With an invisible kiss

Infinite sea,
Please carry my love to her shore
To the place
Where she nourishes her soul

Tell her
I’m never alone
On my endless exploration journey
There is always hope
Walking by my side
Gratitude in my heart

The memory of our love

Homeless

Homeless

Homeless
Without your touch

The memory of the countless kisses
We named, described and tasted
Gives me bittersweet pleasure
Just like our lazy Sundays
Under the sheets
Of our love
When your determined mission was to savor me
Over and over again

Yet today
I am forgotten
Like a shooting star
That used to smile brightly at the sky
But had to drift away
In order to grant a wish

The memories of Happy
Nearly thousand days
Of a shared journey
Filled with laughter, music and sentiments
Still fill an empty place in my heart
The good old times
When my devoted calling was to
Make your heart smile

Yet today
I am alone
Like an old tree
Before its final day
Waiting for a gentle breeze to caress
Its bare branches – one last time

The memories of the words
Spoken, written and felt
Still inspire and define me
When we spoke in three languages:
yours, mine and poetry
But the only language necessary
Was the knowing
In our hearts

Yet today
I am nameless
Like an unknown planet
Orbiting and hiding
At the dark fringes of the solar system
Waiting to be found

Homeless
Without your touch
